Client Case Study LErin Alta - When I Grow Up

Client Case Study LErin Alta - When I Grow Up Um, do you know that Ive coached hundreds of women since I started offering dream career guidance in 2008? And that these women are freakin rock stars, leaving soul-sucking jobs and traveling the world and launching creative, grown-up businesses and simply doing work that fits their lifestyle goals? Well ya do now and youll hear their stories firsthand in my  Client Case Studies series!  Its been so magical seeing LErin Altas business grow in the 5 years weve worked together. Her business,  Sisterfire, has grown into an absolute reflection of LErins brilliance and personal mission. Heres how she got there. Why did you decide to work with a creative career coach? I hired Michelle because I had a great 9-5 job but had no interest in office politics, bosses or following someone else’s path and vision for my success. Instead, I wanted to figure out how to create success and business on my own terms using my unique gifts, passions and vision. What were you doing work-wise when we started our sessions? I was a Program Officer at a non-profit working to end global poverty. I worked in Basic and Girls’ Education and Economic Development. After work and on weekends, I facilitated healing, transformation and leadership workshops for women but I hadn’t figured out how to turn it into a thriving business. What was your biggest takeaway from our work together? My biggest takeaway from working with Michelle was permission to play and explore and experiment in order to figure out what I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it. I started to let go of the idea that there’s ONE perfect solution to being unhappy with my job, so I started exploring a range of professional possibilities that I would enjoy. Was there anything else you tried to do as a career between the time we stopped our program  and what you do for work now? If so, how did it inform your current business? Over the years, I’ve picked up part-time work when cash flow was low but it was never because I was looking for a new career. One I figured out that I actually could run my own business, I was hooked! What would you tell someone now that was in your shoes when we first started working together? Whats your best tip to allow them to make a grown-up living doing what they love? Hire someone! It’s so much easier to navigate the beginning of career happiness with objective support and insight. Even if you have an idea of what you want to do, getting fresh eyes and ears on your dreams is invaluable. All too often, we have friends and family who are invested in our success looking a specific way. Hiring a coach to support helps you remember who you are and what you’re capable of, outside of traditional structures of business and success. Whats on the horizon for your business? There are a ton of new things cooking at SisterFire.com. I’m shifting my focus from running an almost completely virtual business, to going back to my roots and focusing on in-person workshops and retreats for women entrepreneurs. There is such a hunger for high touch experiences, real community, respite from the digital world, that I’m devoted to creating circles of power and healing for women entrepreneurs that are just as real to the body and soul as they are to my mind. Wanna work with me one-on-one like LErin  did? Check out the details here and then register for my free webinar on 1/29 so you can set yourself up for a successful career change!
